The Orono Bog is a National Natural Landmark that is a part of the Caribou Bog complex, the largest peatland in Maine. The bog has a boardwalk that is 4,200 feet long. This boardwalk starts in upland forest and goes into forested wetlands before emerging into the open bog. The boardwalk forms a loop in the open bog and has several information signs along it.
To get to the bog you should turn to go to the Bangor City Forest from Stillwater Avenue. Then follow the trails from the parking lot at the end of the road to the bog entrance. The boardwalk is only open during daylight hours and is closed in winter.
